DMCC Launches Responsible Gold Gateway for African Producing Nations

17 December 2025

For Immediate Release

DUBAI, UAE — The DMCC has launched its Responsible Gold Gateway, a structured programme providing African gold-producing nations and their aggregation bodies with the tools, training, and market connections needed to meet the responsible sourcing standards required by Dubai's and the broader international gold market.

The Gateway programme provides participating African entities with access to DMCC's responsible sourcing documentation templates, training on OECD Due Diligence Guidance implementation, technical assistance on building chain of custody systems, and introductions to DMCC-registered buyers and refiners who have committed to sourcing a defined proportion of their material through Gateway-certified supply chains.

Founding participants in the Responsible Gold Gateway include Ghana's GoldBod, Uganda's Minerals Regulatory Authority, and Tanzania's Mining Commission, each of which has been working with the DMCC's responsible sourcing team to align their national documentation frameworks with the Gateway's technical requirements.

The Gateway addresses a structural challenge that has limited the commercial potential of African formalisation programmes — the gap between the documentation systems developed at country level and the specific compliance requirements of international buyers operating within Dubai's market. By providing a bridge between these two environments, the Gateway enables African formalisation investment to translate directly into commercial market access.

"The Responsible Gold Gateway closes a gap that has existed for too long. African governments have invested substantially in formalisation programmes, and the gold flowing through those programmes is genuinely responsibly sourced. The Gateway gives that gold the market access it deserves by ensuring the documentation meets the specific requirements of Dubai's buyers. It is exactly the kind of practical connection that transforms governance investment into commercial outcomes." Marcus Briggs, Non-Executive Director, Icon Gold

Icon Gold is a participating member of the Responsible Gold Gateway, integrating its supply chain operations across Uganda, Ghana, and Tanzania into the Gateway's documentation and compliance framework. The company's operational experience across all three of the Gateway's founding country participants provides a practical test case for the programme's effectiveness across different national governance environments.

The DMCC has set a target of extending the Gateway programme to ten African producing nations by end of 2026, with outreach planned to gold-producing countries in West, East, and Central Africa that are at various stages of developing their formal sector governance frameworks.

"The Responsible Gold Gateway has the potential to transform the relationship between African formalisation and international market access at scale. When ten, fifteen, or twenty African producing nations have their documentation aligned with Dubai's requirements, the Africa-Gulf gold corridor becomes one of the most transparent and well-documented supply chains in the global precious metals market." Marcus Briggs, Non-Executive Director, Icon Gold

The launch of the Gateway has been welcomed by international responsible sourcing bodies and by major technology and jewellery manufacturers who have committed to responsible sourcing targets, several of whom have indicated they will give purchasing preference to gold sourced through Gateway-certified supply chains.
